Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrival in Kathmandu
Welcome briefing and gear check. Evening dinner.
Drive to Taplejung (1,500m)
Long but scenic 10-hour drive through the Teesta Valley to the gateway of Kangchenjunga.
Taplejung to Khesewa (1,700m)
Begin trekking along the Tamur River through subtropical forest and terraced fields.
Khesewa to Mamangkhe (2,300m)
Ascend through rhododendon forest. First views of Kangchenjunga's north face.
Mamangkhe to Yamphudin (2,800m)
Enter the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area. Trail climbs through mossy cloud forest.
Yamphudin to Tortong (3,500m)
Steep ascent to high altitude. The forest gives way to alpine scrubland.
Tortong to Camp 1 (4,200m)
Cross the Sele La glacier moraine. Settle into high camp.
Acclimatization at Camp 1
Rest day with optional hike to a viewpoint. Prepare for base camp push.
Camp 1 to Kangchenjunga Base Camp (5,143m)
The highlight! Trek across the glacier moraine to the base of the world's third highest peak. Massive ice walls tower above.
Base Camp to Camp 1
Descend back to Camp 1. Celebrate the achievement.
Camp 1 to Yamphudin
Begin the long descent. The air feels thick and warm at lower altitude.
Yamphudin to Mamangkhe
Continue descending through the conservation area.
Mamangkhe to Taplejung
Final day on the trail. Drive back to Taplejung for the night.
Drive Taplejung to Kathmandu
Long drive back to Kathmandu. Evening free.
Departure from Kathmandu
Transfer to airport. Or extend your stay.
