Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrive Paro (2,220m) โ Transfer to Thimphu
Welcome to Bhutan! Scenic 1.5-hour drive to the capital. Visit the National Memorial Chorten and the massive Buddha Dordenma statue. Evening walk through Thimphu's streets.
Thimphu to Punakha (1,250m)
Cross the Dochula Pass (3,100m) with 108 chortens and views of the eastern Himalayas. Descend to the subtropical Punakha Valley. Visit the stunning Punakha Dzong โ Bhutan's most beautiful fortress.
Punakha โ Chimi Lhakhang & Rural Life
Hike to the Chimi Lhakhang (Temple of the Divine Madman) through rice paddies. Visit a traditional farmhouse for lunch. Afternoon at leisure in the warm Punakha Valley.
Punakha to Gasa (2,700m)
Drive to Gasa, the northernmost district capital. Visit Gasa Dzong and explore the hot spring area. Begin acclimatization for the high-altitude sections ahead.
Gasa to Kila Gompa (4,200m)
The highlight trek! Ascend through blue pine and rhododendron forest to Kila Gompa โ a nunnery perched dramatically on a cliff face at 4,200m. Panoramic views of the Tibetan border mountains.
Kila Gompa to Gasa โ Rest Day
Descend back to Gasa. Afternoon at leisure to explore the hot springs, visit local villages, or simply rest. Optional visit to the Gasa Tshechu ground.
Gasa to Paro (2,220m)
Drive back to Paro via Punakha. Stop at Simtokha Dzong โ the first dzong built in Bhutan. Evening free in Paro town.
Tiger's Nest Monastery Hike (3,120m)
The iconic Bhutan experience! 2-hour hike to Paro Taktsang (Tiger's Nest Monastery) โ clinging impossibly to a sheer cliff face. Visit the monastery, light butter lamps, and soak in the sacred atmosphere.
Paro โ Cultural Immersion
Visit the National Museum of Bhutan and Paro Rinpung Dzong. Optional: traditional hot stone bath, archery demonstration, or farmhouse dinner with a local family.
Departure from Paro
Transfer to Paro International Airport for departure. Or extend your stay to explore more of Bhutan โ Bumthang, Gangtey, or the Haa Valley.
